Application of Internal Carbon Source from Sewage Sludge: A Vital Measure to Improve Nitrogen Removal Efficiency of Low C/N Wastewater

Biological nitrogen removal from wastewater is widely used all over the world on account of high efficiency and relatively low cost. However, not optimized when organic matter has inadequate effect for lack a sufficient carbon source in influent. Although addition an external (e.g., methanol acetic acid) could solve insufficient problem, it raises operating cost treatment plants (WWTPs). On other hand, large amounts sludge are produced during biological sewage treatment, which contain concentrations matter. This paper reviews emerging technologies to obtain internal resource their application improving carbon/nitrogen WWTPs. These methods that problem excess crisis simultaneously. The recovery phosphorus treated before recycling as should also be emphasized, energy time consumed treat reduced practical application.
